Unable to Copy Clients in Fixed Asset Manager (FAM)

Description

Attempting to copy any client in FAM will fail with a general error.  Viewing the error report displays the following:

Fixed Asset Manager has stopped working and will shut down.

Faulting application famw3210.exe

Version 0.12.1.1, faulting module famw3210.exe

Version 0.12.1.1, fault address 0x002d82c8

Solution Description

Solution 1: Copy Clients Folder

  1. Close FAM on all workstations.
  2. Using Explorer or (My) Computer, browse to the folder where the clients are kept.
    • Example: C:\FamWin10\Clients
  3. Copy/paste the entire folder where the client files are kept into this same folder.
    • Example: the should now be a Copy of Clients folder inside FamWin10.
  4. Right-click rename the current Clients folder to Clients-old then rename the copy to just Clients.
    • You want the copy to have the name of the original folder now.
  5. Open FAM and you should be able to make a copy of a client.

Solution 2: Reinstall Locally and Use Mapped Drive

  1. Within FAM, click Tools -> Program Options -> Clients tab.
  2. Note the Default client location and close the program.
  3. Right-click the shortcut used to open FAM and select the Shortcut tab.
    • If it is pointing to a network path, delete the shortcut.
  4. Reinstall FAM from the CD or download as a Stand Alone.
  5. Once installed, open the program from the new shortcut.
  6. Go to the Default client location again and change it to the folder on the network drive.
    • Be sure to use a mapped drive instead of a UNC path.
  7. Try to make a copy of a client again.
