If you created a bill or invoice and cannot see it on a report, it might be that your accounting method is set to "cash" instead of "accrual."
Cash-Basis Accounting
With the cash-basis accounting method, items are not reflected until money actually changes hands. Bills will not show until you pay them, and invoices will not appear until you have received payment. This means that your Profit and Loss will not reflect the full expense and income accounts until you actually pay bills or receive payment on your invoices.
To Change the Accounting Method
There are two ways to change the accounting method reflected on your reports.
-
Change your Company Settings, which changes it for all reports going forward:
-
- Click the Gear icon (top right) and select Company Settings.
- On the left side of the screen, click Company.
- Click the pencil icon in the Accounting Method section.
- Change the drop-down menu to Accrual, and then click Save.
- Click Done.
-
Change the method in the current report only:
- Bring up the report you would like to change, and then click Customize.
- In the General section, clickAccrual.
- Click Run Report.
